Taking a leaf out of the 'waste to wealth' mantra, TTD will put to use tons of used garlands which will be procured from its numerous local temples located in and around Chittoor district towards to be utilized in producing its own brand of Agarbattis.
TTD has 26 odd temples located in Chittoor district alone.
TTD will not be procuring used garlands at the Tirumala temple as the Agama advisory board is yet to give its consent to the proposal.
However, as no objections were raised by the TTD group of local temples, used garlands from the ancient Padmavathi Ammavari temple at Tiruchanoor, Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple, Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple, Sri Kapila Teertham temple in Tirupati and other local temples located across the district, will be procured on a daily basis to use in the making of the incense sticks.
Executive officer Dr KS Jawahar Reddy told reporters that the temple body has tied up with Bengaluru based Darshan international limited for manufacturing and marketing TTD brand incense sticks.
TTD has set up a state of the art incense sticks manufacturing facility at the SV dairy farm premises located in Tirupati.
"Elaborate arrangements have been made for setting up dedicated incense sticks sale counters which will come up near the Laddu counters at Tirumala, Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple, Sri Padmavathi Ammavari temple, Srinivasam and Vishnu nivasam pilgrim amenities complexes located in Tirupati", added TTD EO.
