Did you know lightning has a smell? FOX 5 meteorologist Matthew Cappucci explains why it has a scent and just how sensitive human noses are to it.

The smell of lightning is actually the ozone produced by the lightning, according to Cappucci. He says it's the same smell you'd get if you opened up the dryer and see little sparks.

"The human nose is extremely sensitive to it," Cappucci says. "So, you can smell the equivalent of about three teaspoons in an Olympic-sized swimming pool."

So, if you were on the National Mall when lightning struck the Washington Monument this weekend, you might have been able to smell it!
