"Our objective for over twenty years - we started when organic productions were still a niche - has been to produce a wide range of aromatic herbs in full respect of the environment. Our know-how enables us to grow plants from GMO-free seeds and without using chemicals. We believe it is precisely the respect for the natural cycle of each plant that determines the health of a product... this is why people care more about 'green' topics," explains Carlo Simonato, owner of F.lli Simonato.

For over twenty years, F.lli Simonato has been one of the main protagonists on the European and Italian markets for the cultivation and sale of organic aromatic herbs. It has mainly specialized in basil, rosemary, sage, mint, marjoram, thyme, oregano and chili peppers and, more recently, it started extending its production to tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini and cauliflowers.

“While the restart after the pandemic has caused logistic and procurement problems, we can say the sales of organic aromatic herbs never stopped and are actually going very well. Consumers who have made more aware choices when it comes to healthy nutrition that respects the environment have contributed to this positive trend."

The organic aromatic herb sector is developing better than expected, especially where supplies are ongoing.

"Basil is definitely among the most popular products, available in the red, artic and Greek varieties. In addition, we are the only ones in Italy and Europe producing organic chili peppers in pots. Coriander is also doing well thanks to the fact ethnic dishes are more popular as a result of globalization. Lavender is now also used as a condiment for salad and dill, originally a northern-European herb, is starting to be appreciated in Italy as well."

"The search for plastic-free and recyclable materials with a low environmental impact is a priority for us. After creating the completely eco-compatible packaging Bio Kepos 2, we launched Bio&Paperpack, a new plastic-free solution made entirely of paper. The bag holding the plant is made of paper, meaning it is ultra-light, and so is the plant holder used for transport and to showcase plants in stores."

"We also produce organic poinsettias, which are very popular in Italy during the Christmas periods. Once again, this is proof of our commitment to fully respect nature, as we do not use pesticides, insecticides or other chemical products to safeguard the health of man and the environment."
